Dejon Akei Smith — better known on the stage as Davi Akei — is bringing a fresh set of pipes and poetry to the world of Neo-Soul and Funk and next… Americana.
DAVI AKEI, born DEJ'ON SMITH, is an artist, DJ, curator, and creative force rooted in sound, movement, community, and self expression.
His work exists at the intersection of music and experience, creating spaces where people can feel something before they ever have to explain it. As DJ Daví Akei, he approaches music as more than a soundtrack. It is atmosphere, memory, release, connection, and sometimes the thing that brings a room back to life.
His creative language moves freely between the dance floor, visual art, wellness, nightlife, community gatherings, and cultural experiences. Whether behind the decks, developing a concept, shaping an event, or building a visual world around an idea, DAVI AKEI is interested in creating moments that feel intentional without feeling overly constructed.
There is a natural tension in his work between softness and energy. Joy and reflection. Nostalgia and discovery. The familiar and the unexpected. His sets and creative projects pull from a wide range of sounds and influences, allowing music to move across genres, generations, and moods without being boxed into one particular lane.
At the heart of DAVI AKEI's practice is community. His work has often extended beyond entertainment into the creation of spaces where Black and Brown communities, queer and gender expansive people, artists, creatives, and people simply looking for somewhere to belong can gather authentically. Through music, events, wellness programming, and collaborative experiences, he continues to explore what happens when creativity becomes a vehicle for connection.
DAVI AKEI is not interested in simply filling a room with sound. He is interested in giving the room a feeling.
