Dejon Akei Smith — better known on the stage as Davi Akei — is bringing a fresh set of pipes and poetry to the world of Neo-Soul and Funk.

Born and raised in Chicago’s Southside, rising Singer/Songwriter Davi Akei grew an ear for music and began training at an early age. Instructed by some of Chicago's finest in Classical and Jazz throughout his youth — and having influences ranging from icons like Michael Jackson to new school artists like 6Black, Ty Dolla $ign and the queen of Neo-Soul Jill Scott — Davi began to experiment and bend genres to cultivate a sound all his own.

Voice competitions helped to fan his flame for music into a remarkable blaze, and over several years Davi developed a mastery for harmony, song structure, and vocal dynamics while performing with civic choirs and madrigal ensembles. He’s crooned on stages including the Chicago Theater, Guaranteed Rate Field, and the House of Blues. Meanwhile, he continued to fashion an intoxicating and serene tone, one that sweeps gently over lush melodies while touting heartfelt lyricism.

Now living and performing in NYC, Davi continues to push himself in life and through artistry — forging a bright future in the indie music arena by offering versatile musicianship, clever songwriting, and a heart for community. On any given week in the big apple, you may spot Davi hosting an open mic, or performing for fundraisers and benefits, artist showcases, and other concerts.

To mark the new journey of a solo career, Davi’s working on his debut EP Authentic Soul, featuring his latest single Distance, with the album slated for release in the second half of 2017. Authentic Soul will also reach beyond the studio and into performance art, public speaking, and special engagements.
